AHFA Foundation continues to support furniture schools
The American Home Furniture Alliance Furniture Foundation (AHFA) announced that it will allocate US$49,000 in 2020 to support training programs in the furniture industry.
The Furniture Foundation was established in 1948 to fund research and educational programs aimed at improving the management, production and marketing of the furniture industry. Since 1990, he has distributed more than $4.2 million. The 2020 grants include: furnitureretro.com.
As part of Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC), he won 60 scholarships of $15,000 at Alexander Furniture College in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Alexander County Academy (Alexander County Academy) opened in 2016 with the goal of bringing workers together to make upholstered furniture, the largest industrial group and economic engine in Western North Carolina. The academy offers customization and furniture courses in a simulated factory environment developed in cooperation with local manufacturers. This 24-week course is taught by experienced sewing and interior decoration workers from neighboring companies, including members of AHFA Craftmaster, Hancock & Moore, Huntington House, Kincaid/La-Z-Boy and Taylor King. So far, the college has trained 100% of 118 graduates.
The Catawba Valley Furniture Institute established in Hickory, North Carolina in 2014 won a scholarship of $7,000. ...The program started at a 6,000 square foot training facility in Hickory. In 2017, he moved to a 38,400 square foot building specifically designed for training in the furniture industry. Provided 82 scholarships to students at Caldwell Community College and Technical College Furniture Technology College (CCC&TI) in Hudson, North Carolina, amounting to $15,000. AHFA members McCreary Modern and Fairfield Chair are both manufacturers that support the plan.
Provided $12,000 to Appalachian State University (ASU) in Boone, North Carolina, to continue the school furniture design scholarship program. The grant will again fund four scholarships of US$3,000. Since 2002, the foundation has been supporting the ASU furniture design project. It offers students a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design, with a focus on product development, environmental issues, and manufacturing requirements.
The AHFA Furniture Foundation accepts applications for funding in March every year. The foundation board reviews all proposals and makes the final funding decision.
